Yes, you have just read that right. Finally, there is a study that has proved that the reason behind your sleepless nights is a SMARTPHONE! 

There is a study that has finally proved that LED screens repeal your dreams and disrupts REM sleep cycle, which means in simpler English – you cannot sleep with the smartphone blinking on your face.

A study on the subject has been published in the medical journal, BMJ Open. Around 9,846 teenagers were examined for two years in Norway and the result got was published last year, 2015.

The survey was taken on individuals between the age of 16 to 19. They were all asked the same questions, based on their activity right before going to bed at night.

The Norwegian scientist, who came up with this study had this to say –

“Almost all adolescents reported using one or more electronic devices during the last hour before bedtime.”

He further added –

“Extensive use of these devices was significantly and positively associated with SOL [sleep onset latency, or the amount of time it takes to nod off] and sleep deficiency, with an inverse dose–response relationship between sleep duration and media use.”

The blue LED screen supposedly prevents the production of sleep inducing hormone called melatonin in our brain. Apart from this, the news feed on facebook and twitter stimulates your brain and this ultimately results in you staying awake.

So, if you really want to have a good night sleep, then it is better to stop using the smartphone just one or two hour before you go to bed. That way, you might end up sleeping and having a beautiful dream.
